Independent Arts – Festival of Islesolation – The Isolation of Lockdown

Entaglement

I have been in collaboration with Trudie Wilson on an Independent Arts project – Festival of Isolation – The Isolation of Lockdown. I took the photos and Trudie, a fine artist, worked her magic on them in Photoshop to produce this gallery.

Derek Sandy sings Stay Safe on the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight County Press used the story here https://www.countypress.co.uk/news/18431077.derek-sandy-sings-loud-proud-get-app-save-lives/

Derek Sandy with son Alex Cassidy, tests out the new corona virus  app ahead of its release tomorrow to the public at his Isle of Wight Home

6 05 2020

The Isle of Wight’s unlikely ambassador, the much-loved Derek Sandy,  paid a singing tribute to the Island’s key workers, particularly prison staff at HMP Isle of Wight, those at Mountbatten Hospice and staff working at the Island’s only hospital St Mary’s in Newport. Derek urged everyone to download the NHS app which from Thursday will be trialled on the Isle of Wight to track and trace Covid-19 cases.

Derek said: ‘We have a small and close community here on the Isle of Wight who have always given me great support! Let’s download the app, help the NHS, stay safe and then we can welcome people back to the Isle of Wight!’

Derek hails from Trinidad and brings Caribbean music and sunshine to the Isle of Wight, known as ‘the sunniest place in Britain’. He recently starred on Britain’s Got Talent and also won Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me in 2012. He draws huge crowds of locals and holidaymakers when he performs on the beaches in Ryde and Shanklin singing reggae tunes by UB40 and Bob Marley and the Island’s anthem ‘Welcome To The Isle of Wight’.

Ian Elvin and Trish Simpson become a Jack Vettriano painting – Study for The Singing Butler
Appley Beach, Ryde, Isle of Wight 19 04 2020
Ian Elvin and Trish Simpson recreated a magical moment after he recently proposed on the 4th April 2020. Ian had originally planned to pop the question at one of Europe’s most romantic cities but the lockdown put a stop to that. Ian was determined that this should go ahead on Tricia’s 50th birthday and proposed in her parent’s back garden, whilst delivering essential food supplies – and maintaining social distancing of course! Freelance press photographer Graham Reading offered to recreate a romantic Jack Vettriano picture on his early morning walk on Ryde Beach, and it developed into a romantic engagement shoot. Trish said – I had thought that Ian may propose at some point during this year and knew he would arrange something magical – it came as a wonderful surprise that Ian went ahead with the proposal. Ian said – It wasn’t what I had originally planned, but I am very happy that she said yes and the lockdown has meant that we have spent a lot of time together!
