Seaclose Helicopter Exercise

On Friday 17 April the Royal Air Force undertook a short exercise, landing a CH47 Chinook helicopter at Seaclose Park to test and evaluate longstanding helicopter landing site procedures, should they be needed, to transfer patients as a part of the contribution being made by the military in support of the IoW NHS Trust during the COVID-19 emergency.

King’s Cup

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge went head to head as skippers of their own boats in The King’s Cup. Celebrity teams included Bear Grylls, Dan Snow, Fara Williams, John Bishop, Katie Thistleton and Helen Glover. Bear Grylls won the trophy, with Kate winning the wooden spoon for her last place.

The King’s Cup trophy is a historical cup first presented by King George V at Cowes’ Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920.

Iconic Bowie at Dimbola Museum and Galleries

Dr Brian Hinton (Chairman of Julia Margaret Cameron Trust) introduced visiting guests – Kevin Cummins (photographer), Carrie Kania (Editorial Director at Iconic Images) and Guy Portelli (sculptor) to the launch evening of Dimbola Museum & Galleries summer show on 7th June 2019- Iconic Bowie – which is a celebration of the pioneering artist and musical innovator David Bowie (1947-2016) featuring iconic photography, painting, vinyl art and sculpture.

Kevin Cummins showed his photographs of David Bowie at the private view, and gave an entertaining talk about how he took them. Sculptor Guy Portelli also talked about his work. Phil Lancaster who drummed in Lower Third with Bowie and author Kevin Cann who both have written books on Bowie, joined invited guests at the successful launch evening. D-Day 75th Anniversary Commemorations

The Red Arrows gave a stunning display at the D-Day 75th Anniversary Commemorations held at Portsmouth/Southsea. MV Boudicca carried veterans to Normandy and was met by a flotilla of Royal Navy vessels who will sailed past her in salute with sailors lining the decks, wth a spitfire flying overhead. Robin Hill Sky High Night Glow

Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight hosted ‘Sky High’ where tethered hot air balloons were displayed – shown here in a ‘Night Glow’ evening where the burners created some amazing light – all to music.
